After years of deep friendship and creative coexistence, the multifaceted art group Fabrica Athens and the great actor of the historic Odin Teatret, Donald Kitt, officially join forces for the first time in the performance "Sisyphus – flesh and earth", inaugurating the Canadian director's first production in Greece. Fanis Katehos embodies a modern Sisyphus, interacting on stage with the saxophone and the original musical compositions of Tasos Photiou, through the directorial eye of Donald Kitt. The performance combines elements of physical and ritual theatre with visual references, revealing new aspects of the myth. It draws inspiration from the actor's long-standing work in correctional institutions, from personal experiences and the existential concept of confinement.
Without a clear starting or ending point, "Sisyphus" invites the viewer to turn within: to reflect on their own burdens and to ask the question — what are those moments that offer us a sense of Freedom? The performance is the fruit of three years of research. The first two creative meetings took place in Denmark, in February and June 2024. The third took place in Athens in May 2025, while the fourth will take place in August 2025, as part of an artistic residency at the BRAMAT Festival in Poland — where the world premiere of the performance is also scheduled for August 31.
"Sisyphus – flesh and earth" is a visual performance with elements of physical and ritual theatre, based on the timeless myth. The viewer becomes a witness to a tragic hero and a fellow traveller in his experience: the effort, the hope, the pain. And somewhere there, he begins to wonder — is he watching a myth or… himself?

Is Sisyphus schizophrenic? Here's an interesting idea. Why, if you were carrying a rock up and down for eternity, wouldn't your mind soon lose its way? Wouldn't it start confusing fantasy with reality, dream with waking life?
